Extreme Challenge 2008

Mixed Martial Arts returns to the octagon on Friday, September 19 when Extreme Challenge 106: Midwest vs. West Coast invades the Event Center. Catch all the action when “Big” John McCarthy brings his stable of up-and-coming fighters from his MMA gym outside Los Angeles, CA to Riverside, IA to fight Midwestern fighters from the gym of Pat Miletich and Matt Hughes. Feel the excitement as McCarthy and Miletich coach their fighters from the sidelines!
Known for his catchphrase, “Let’s get it on”, “Big” John McCarthy was the premiere referee in the UFC for more than a decade. He has officiated some of the most viewed title fights and biggest matchups in MMA history. He left the UFC to begin a career in broadcasting and was seen July 19 on the new Affliction card that was called the best fight card in MMA history. McCarthy also works for The Fight Network where he is the lead analyst and ring interviewer. John owns an MMA gym outside Los Angeles.
Pat Miletich was the first mixed martial artist to combine all three elements of the sport into a stellar career. He is a former seven-time world champion and has been as successful – if not more so – running his Champions Gym in Bettendorf, Iowa. The gym is considered among the best in the world. Fighters from all over the country come to train at the MFS Elite School. Champions at the gym include Tim Sylvia, Jens Pulver, Spencer Fisher, Drew McFedries, Ben Rothwell and Rich Franklin. Miletich is a UFC Hall of Fame fighter.
Scheduled to compete is local favorite, New London’s Gabe Lemley. Lemley, Extreme Challenge's 145-pound champion, will be defending his belt when he enters the cage Sept. 19th at Riverside Casino & Golf Resort.
Tickets are $35, $55, $65 or $100 plus tax and an online/phone ticketing fee (this fee is waived when tickets are purchased in the Gift Shop). Tickets are on sale in the Gift Shop and online.
